Skive Fjord Camping:
The masterpiece at the Limfjord

Skive Fjord Camping is one of the only campsites in Denmark that is completely terraced - even on a south-facing slope, so there is plenty of sun! The terraces provide a completely unique atmosphere and lots of peace and quiet; instead of having caravans surrounding you on all sides on a boring side road, you only have one neighbour on each side and plenty of view and air in front of you. Here everyone has a degree of view - either over the Limfjord, the surrounding fields, the forest or over the campsite. The terraces also absorb a lot of sound, so even though you are on a beautiful and open campsite full of life, you can still hear the birds chirping and enjoy a good book in silence. Being on such a beautiful and well-designed campsite is an experience in itself: come and try it for yourself!

Love at first panoramic sight

The story of a Zealand family who fell so head over heels in love with the architectural masterpiece by the Limfjord that they moved across the country to buy it.
In 2005, the idea of a campsite began to germinate. In fact, it started as a bit of a joke between my parents on a camping holiday; “because if there’s one thing we’re good at, it’s camping”, they said laughing in the awning. For a few years, they would take an extra good look around every time we went camping. Sentences like “Have you seen the plumbing they’ve done under the sinks, Anita?” and “That’s a good idea with those information boards” were quite common when we went on trips. They still are to a very high degree; because we camp avidly all winter ourselves, but that’s a completely different story, we can have another good day at the reception.

In 2010 they really started to take the joke seriously; they were looking for campsites for sale - in our local area on Zealand. We lived in a small town on West Zealand, and I had no idea that we would be moving much more than three blocks away from my hometown. They didn't know either.

Until they saw the advertisement for Skive Fjord Camping at the end of 2010.

It was love at first sight when they saw the pictures of the fantastic view over Skive Fjord, which is part of the Limfjord. My mother loves order and systems, so it didn't make it any less fantastic that the entire space has been laid out super-systematically and thoroughly designed by landscape architects, so that everyone has the best possible view; over the fjord, the square, the forest or the surrounding fields. We have heard many stories about concentrated architects who, with critical eyes, crawled around a prototype of the facility to find out if the terraces gave the desired effect. You can almost imagine how the eyes were squeezed shut and one eyebrow slightly raised, while the head was slowly moved up and down and from side to side, while the view was studied from all angles. You have to say, they did their job well!

In fact, they were so in love that they had decided to buy even before they went to northern Central Jutland to see the campsite with their own eyes in January 2011. Skive Fjord Camping was perfect - and without a doubt worth uprooting the roots that were firmly planted on Zealand. A few months later we stood with the keys and moving vans in Skive, and we haven't regretted it for a single second since. We love Skive, we love the Limfjord - and most of all we love running our beautiful campsite with a fantastic panoramic view of the Limfjord filled with happy guests.

I have to say that even though I was 11 years old and very unhappy about having to find brand new friends in Jutland (Jutland of all places, mom and dad!), I'm not going back to Zealand just yet. Because I love the place at least as much as my parents. And today it's me who drives my sweet friends crazy when I talk about swimming pool facilities, activity plans and google the price of "those really smart fixtures that are in the toilet in Vandgården at high school!"

And the view? You never get tired of it. Not even if we are always here admiring the fjord every day; it is forever changing and an equally magnificent experience every time. We still lose our breath when we take a walk in the morning with our little street dog Luca and stop at seat 124 on the top row - and it is not (exclusively) due to poor form.

I hope you want to see with your own eyes why a small family from Zealand fell head over heels in love with a campsite in the heart of Jutland. You won't be disappointed.
