Beautiful forests: Forest areas at and near Skive Fjord Camping

Near the campsite there are good opportunities to experience forests of various kinds - including an old cultural forest that is very unique for the area, as well as the large conifer plantation.

Directly at/by the campsite you will find two smaller forest areas, one of which is directly connected to the pitches and takes you down a pleasant route between trees to the beach. The other area houses our two large forest lakes and can be accessed either from the paved road to the beach or from the beach behind the surf club house.

Via the Fjord Path at the water's edge you can also reach one of Central Jutland's oldest cultivated forests, Krabbesholm Forest, where the average age of the trees is among the highest in Denmark. At the other end of Skive lies the large conifer plantation, where thick moss cushions and evergreen trees always provide a magical experience. Read more about the forests below.

The site's forest areas: Directly to the beach between trees

Directly at and by Skive Fjord Camping are two smaller forest areas. One is between the site and the beach, where it runs parallel to the grass path that leads from the site down to the beach. In the forest you will find two paths - either you can enjoy the small loop that stays at the same level as the campsite, or you can choose to follow the path that leads down to the water. This walk is hilly and leads downhill along large and small trees directly down to the beach. It is a really nice walk! In this forest you will also find an MTB track, which you can read more about here..

The site's second forest area is hidden behind our horse paddocks, houses two beautiful forest lakes and can be accessed from the beach behind the surf club house or via the opening at the edge of the forest, which is located approximately halfway between the campsite and the beach, if you go to the beach via the asphalt road. In both of the campsite's forest areas, most dead trees and branches are allowed to remain standing or lying where they fell - to the great delight of insects and the rest of the food web. In the areas you can therefore meet lots of bird life - including great spotted woodpeckers, owls, kingfishers by the lakes, etc.

Krabbesholm Forest: Filled with magical, gnarled trees

Via the Fjord Path (or by driving towards Skive Marinas and Parks) you will find Krabbesholm Forest. The forest offers old, enormous oak, ash and beech trees, which are several hundred years old, especially in the southern part. It is one of the forests in Denmark with the highest average age of the trees, so it is incredibly beautiful and magical here with old, gnarled trees, winding paths, streams and forest lakes. A forest like Krabbesholm Forest with old, large deciduous trees is very, very unusual to find in Central and West Jutland, so if you love a nice walk in the forest, this is an area you should not miss.

It is beautiful and adventurous here with great routes, orienteering posts, a forest lake, small streams and of course a rich wildlife. Krabbesholm Forest is part of the same green belt for wildlife as the campsite's forest.

Follow the Fjord Path along the water's edge of the Limfjord to Krabbesholm Forest, where the trees stand right down to the water's edge. The forest is only 2-2,5 km from the campsite, and the adventurous deciduous forest offers plenty of lovely walks with your dog, the kids or hand in hand with the one you love.

The forest takes its name from the medieval manor house, which you can still find hidden among the old, beautiful trees in the deciduous forest. Krabbesholm Manor is today a high school for over 100 students with a focus on art and architecture - and once you have walked in the forest, you know where the students can undoubtedly find inspiration in all seasons. There are lots of pleasant paths - some are very hilly and with good terrain, others are flat and go over trickling streams and past a forest lake. There are also orienteering posts in the forest, as well as several activity and exercise equipment in the forest. For children, there are troll routes in the forest.

The forest consists primarily of oak trees well over 100 years old between beech trees and other deciduous trees, but very unusually you can actually also find large ash trees in the forest. Almost all ash trees in Denmark are otherwise dead after disease ravaged them before the turn of the millennium and again at the beginning of the '10s.

Slice Plantation: Conifers and dogwood forests

At the southern end of Skive you will find Skive Plantage, which is located in connection with a large military training area. In the forest you will also find two fenced dog forest areas where your dog can run free - one dog forest is for small dogs under 10 kg, while the other, larger dog forest is for all sizes.

The plantation consists primarily of conifers, so you can look forward to it being green all year round and completely quiet. Thick moss cushions adorn the forest floor, so if you want to explore outside the marked paths, it is a soft and truly magical experience.

There are three marked hiking trails in the Plantation, which are easy to follow among the beautiful trees.

At the southern end of the Plantation lies a large area of heathland that has been cultivated as farmland since the Iron Age with oxen and ard (a primitive type of plough) and has never since been subjected to regular agricultural ploughing – therefore the 1000-year-old high-ridged fields can still be seen on the area. In this area there are also a number of burial mounds from the Iron and Bronze Ages.

In Skive Plantage you can also find lots of delicious edible mushrooms in the autumn, such as porcini mushrooms.
